Photo-Graphia

Photo-Graphia, an exhibition that brings two artists into dialogue: Celestino, Italian artist-photographer, and and Davvetas, painter, poet and Greek-French philosopher.

Next to each other they present their works, apparently very different from each other but somehow connected to each other. An artistic dialogue started a year ago and now finds a synthesis in this exhibition at the SU gallery in Rome.

The photographic works of Celestino speculate and penetrate inanimate objects, roots, woods, branches perhaps millenary. Stubbornly sought after in many places of the world. A nature or vegetable wrecks (so called by the artist) that suddenly, almost by mystery, take shape, come alive in archaic, mythological, mysterious images, recalling in their anthropomorphic forms a ritual prototypical symbolism.

A pantheon of mythological characters in counterpoint with the works of Davvetas, in an inexhaustible clash between myth and reason, between mystery and reality, between poetry and images. Writing has an explicit value in the work of Davvetas, in which figures of mythological inspiration alternate with abstract images.

A dialogue of pictorial traits and words where emptiness assumes and has a central role: They are the voids of history, what is hidden, what is missing, but still a source of movement and life.

In this dialogue in counterpoint Celestino/Davvetas seem to tell us that history is a track in continuous change in matter, their works involve us, dance, become present even in their archaic materiality, take shape, challenge our memory and our visions.

A performance by Demosthenes Davvetas during the vernissage will animate the evening: Lets get drunk with poetry! An actress and Davvetas will recite the author’s poems offering a Greek wine to those present.

Glasses full of Bacchus nectar and words.
